Singapore Airlines 500 KrisFlyer miles referral offer

As part of Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program's 21st birthday, they announced an interesting offer where you can earn 500 KrisFlyer miles for each individual you refer to their KrisFlyer program.  You're capped at 10k miles (20 referrals), though there is the potential to earn another 21k miles for a total of 31k miles if you're one of the top 3 referrers under the promo.

The promo is good through February 29, 2020, and the individual you refer must have at least one qualifying activity with their KrisFlyer account by May 31, 2020 in order for you as the referrer to earn the 500 bonus miles.  The individual referred will also earn 500 bonus miles regardless of any account activity.  The qualifying activity is quite simple as it includes any of the following:

1. Miles accrued or redeemed on flown flights on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and Scoot
2. Miles accrual from partners.
3. Transfer of points from partner programmes to KrisFlyer
4. Submission of retrospective mileage claims for flown flights
5. KrisShop accrual transactions
6. KrisPay accrual transactions and miles conversions

So simply transferring the minimum 1,000 points at a 1:1 ratio from Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, or Citi ThankYou Points would qualify.  Although it might not make sense for some to earn 500 miles by transferring 1,000 points, a better option for qualifying activity would be to shop through the KrisFlyer Spree shopping portal, which is like any other cashback shopping portal except you earn KrisFlyer miles.

Referral steps

The person you are referring must register for a Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer account with the promo code KFBD21 and with your KrisFlyer account number.

So you do need to give the person your KrisFlyer account number, and the promo code KFBD21 must be manually entered as it does not automatically populate.

Bottom line

This is an interesting yet good referral promo for the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer program.  Whereas 500 miles may not seem like much, it can add up with multiple referrals, and it's definitely a good start for those wishing to open a KrisFlyer account.  KrisFlyer miles also have good uses, like short-haul economy class travel with their partner Alaska Airlines for only 7.5k miles each way or economy class travel with any of their Star Alliance partners from the U.S. to Central America and Hawaii with a free stopover for just 35k roundtrip.  If you know of anybody who may be interested in registering for a KrisFlyer account, particularly those with credit card points who could benefit from future travel, this would be a good chance for you to refer them.
