Amazon $20 off $50 on ready for school items, electronics, and more with 1 Amex MR point

On the heels of last week's $20 off $50 promo offer, Amazon is now offering many Amex Membership Rewards (MR) cardholders another $20 off $50 on ready for school items, electronics, and more if they use just 1 MR point.  Ready for school items include school supplies, backpacks and accessories, electronics, boys and girls clothing, and cleaning and essentials, so you should be able to find something to max out on this offer.

To see if you are eligible for this widely targeted offer, go to the promo page and click on "Activate now".  Remember that your Amex MR card must be linked to your Amazon account and you must have enabled paying with points.  This promo ends on the earlier of (a) 11:59 PT on 8/30/2020, or (b) the time at which 100,000 customers have redeemed the offer, so don't delay.

How to maximize the offer

Since 1 Amex MR can only be redeemed for 0.7 cents towards Amazon purchases, it's best to use only 1 MR towards your $50+ purchase.  Although you have to use your linked Amex MR card and not another credit card for this purchase, you can apply your Amazon gift card balance for the purchase instead of charging it all to your Amex card.  This could be useful as the Chase Freedom's current Q3 5x bonus applies to Amazon, including Amazon gift card reloads.  Simply use your Chase Freedom to add to your Amazon gift card balance (and earn 5x), then checkout with your gift card balance and the 1 Amex MR.

Terms and Conditions

  • This is a limited time offer. The promotion will end on the earlier of (a) 11:59 PT on 8/30/2020, or (b) the time at which 100,000 customers have redeemed the offer. The promotion button will expire concurrently.
  • Amazon.com reserves the right to cancel or modify this offer at any time.
  • Offer is available by invitation only, is non-transferable, is not redeemable for cash, and may not be resold.
  • Offer applies only to the purchase where Membership Rewards points are used for at least a portion of the purchase and the promotion is applied at checkout.
  • Offer only applies to select 'Ready for School' promotion products shipped and sold by Amazon.com. Products sold by third-party sellers or other Amazon entities will not qualify for this offer, even if they are “fulfilled by Amazon.com” or “Prime Eligible”.
  • Maximum benefit you may receive from this offer is $20 per eligible Membership Rewards enrolled card per one account
  • Offer may not be combined with other offers.
  • Shipping charges may apply to discounted promotional items.
  • Offer does not apply to purchase of digital content.
  • Offer discount will be allocated proportionally among all promotional items in your original order. If any of the items in your original order are subsequently returned, your refund will equal the original price of the product, less the proportional amount of the discount. The total discount on the unreturned amount of your original order will then be less than the maximum discount availed.
  • If any of the products related to your original order are returned, subject to Amazon’s refund policy, you will receive a refund of the amount charged to your card first, followed by Membership Rewards points.
  • Promotional codes (including those placed directly in accounts) may not be redeemed for Amazon Gift Cards.
  • This promotion is available only to Amazon.com customers with an eligible Membership Rewards points card issued in United States.
  • Promotional credit is applied before taxes and fees.
  • If you violate any of these terms, the offer will be invalid.

Bottom line

Although not as generous as last week's $20 off $50 offer for Amex MR cardholders, this new promo will still allow many users to get up to 40% off on items they normally purchase, such as cleaning and essentials.  And if you've got an electronics purchase in mind, such as an iPad or a new pair of headphones, this would be your opportunity to score $20 off.
