Amazon's extended holiday return policy through January 31, 2021 now in effect!
In preparation for Prime Day on October 13 and 14, Amazon has officially implemented their extended holiday return policy to January 31, 2021 for all purchases shipped and sold by Amazon as of October 1, 2020! This means that you could have up to 4 months to return your Amazon order, and Prime Day purchases will of course be covered. If you go into your account and attempt to return a recent purchase, you should see that it's return eligible through January 31, 2021:
This is a tremendously generous move by Amazon, as they're no doubt trying to get your purchase triggers going in time for Prime Day. Amazon returns have now become a relatively simple process, with many product returns eligible for free UPS pickup so that you don't even need to leave your house for a return. Free dropoff returns is available at Amazon physical stores, UPS Stores, and Kohl's, and you don't need a printer or packaging as the merchants take care of everything for you.
Per Amazon:
For the 2020 holiday season, most of the items shipped between October 1 and December 31 can be returned until January 31, 2021.
Quick thoughts
It's great to see Amazon initiate their extended holiday return policy early. Normally, this policy doesn't go into effect until mid-November, so Amazon is 1 1/2 months ahead of schedule on this one. It's also no coincidence that it coincides closely with the delayed Amazon Prime Day, and is designed for you to pull your purchasing trigger on all their deals. And don't forget, you can get up to $60 in free Amazon credits for Prime Day.
