Citi offering cardholders additional 5% cashback for online purchases

Just in time for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Citi has just announced a promo giving their credit card holders 5% or 5x cashback on all online purchases between 11/24-11/30.  Most if not all Citi credit card holders appear to be eligible for this offer, which maxes out after you hit $500 in online purchases.  Registration is required and open between 11/16-11/30.  If you have multiple Citi cards, enrollment is required for each card, and you'd be able to get 5% cashback on up to $500 in purchases for each card.

  • Registration is required November 16-30, 2020, at citi.com/giving
  • Online purchases made November 24-30, 2020, are eligible
  • Cardmembers can receive 5% cash back for up to $500 in online purchases, in addition to the rewards they usually earn
  • The 5% cash back will post within one to two billing cycles
  • Card members must have an eligible account as of 10/23/2020.  New card members and accounts opened after 10/23/2020 are not eligible

If you max out on this offer, you'll earn up to $25 or 2,500 Citi ThankYou points for each card.  What's great about this offer is that the bonus cashback/points is in addition to what your card already earns on points.  So if you have a card like the Citi Premier which earns 3x at restaurants and grocery stores including delivery services like Doordash and Instacart, you'd get 8x for these purchases.

Quick thoughts

This is a fantastic offer for the entire portfolio of Citi cards.  As the majority of Black Friday deals will be online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you can probably easily max out on this offer at Amazon alone.  Keep in mind that the online merchant must code the purchase as an online transaction in order for you to be eligible to earn 5%, so mobile wallet purchases may not qualify.
