Popular Safeway/Vons/Albertsons Visa gift card deal returns, save $25

Safeway/Vons/Albertsons popular Visa gift card deal has returned where you can get $15 off two (2) $100 Visa gift cards and $10 off two (2) $50 Visa gift cards.  This deal expires on February 23, 2021, and needs to first be added to your Just for U account before being redeemed at the cash register.

Which credit card to use?

$100 Visa gift cards have $5.95 purchase fees and $50 Visa gift cards have $4.95 purchase fees.  So you'd be up $3.10 for the $100 gift card offer and 10 cents for the $50 offer, plus any credit cards rewards points earnings.  For those of you who were fortunate enough to sign up for the Amex Platinum or Chase Freedom Flex during the past few months promotional period where you got 10x Amex Membership Rewards (MR) on grocery store purchases for the first 6 months and 5x Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR) on grocery store purchases for the first 12 months, this would be an excellent opportunity to earn extra bonus points.  Another good credit card to use is the Amex Gold card, which always earns 4x on grocery store purchases and currently has an increased 60,000-point sign-up bonus.

Best ways to redeem Visa gift cards

Visa gift cards are accepted everywhere online and in the U.S. where Visa debit cards are accepted.  One of the issues redeeming these cards, particularly online, is that the entire transaction can be declined if you don't have the balance to cover the entire purchase.  However, this isn't the case at Costco where they simply subtract the remaining value on your Visa gift card from the total transaction amount.  My favorite way of redeeming Visa gift cards is for Amazon debit card reloads, which earn an extra 2% bonus and can be set in any increment above 50 cents.

Quick thoughts

We haven't seen many Visa gift card deals recently after the holidays, so it's great to see this popular offer return.  Remember to first add the deal(s) to your Just for U accounts before heading towards Safeway.
